Alex Houser and Rick Wright have returned from their summer internship opportunity at The Notre Dame Idea Center, located in South Bend, Indiana. The pair were able to spend their summer developing skills in Solid Works, CNC Machines, and many other skills relevant to their respective career paths.
The pair are two students from a pool of local high schools who applied for the opportunity. The Idea Center happens to be home to the largest 3D printer at any University in the nation, capable of producing a print of up to 13 cubic feet.
As detailed in the story Elevate posted before Alex & Rick left for the summer, the two have been good friends since the age of five. When asked if living and working together for the whole summer ever became overwhelming, they laughed and suggested that keeping a good sense of humor has been the key to managing their busy workload. While in South Bend, Alex and Rick also say their favorite places to eat included Nom Nom Pho & Fatbird.
Alex would like to let students who may apply for this opportunity in the future know the program is, “a chance of a lifetime to start a business related to selling a product.” He and Rick are in the process of building their business, Cowboy Woodworking, stay tuned up with Elevate online & at the center to catch their upcoming Etsy Shop where their products will be sold online.
